What can get your blacklisted on a search engine

December 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Getting blacklisted on a search engine means that your website might be removed from the index of the search engine database and make sure that the search engine spiders do not crawl on your site. This is not good for a website and can harm business adversely.

The main reasons for being banned on a search engine is mostly due to practices that a person uses or methods that he or she employs while trying to optimize their website. Even some of the minor mistakes can cost you your business and lead the search engine to ban your website from their database. Some of the common reasons for being banned from a search engine are keywords stuffing, hidden text and other such methods that are not approved of by the popular search engines. Stuffing your content with keywords can actually harm your web presence and ranking.

Writing hidden text with keywords that is visible to the search engine is also not a very good practice. Multiple links to other websites or link farming to websites that have nothing to do with your website or your business and using irrelevant keywords can do no good for your website in the eyes of the search engine. Linking to banned websites and using software to submit pages that is not authorized by the website can be a bad idea.

The effects of being banned will show immediately in the form of drastic drop in the number of visitors to the website. A drop in the rank from any level to zero is another red flag. If one is not sure whether their site has been banned or not it is good to make a search in the search engine and if it brings up a result that this domain is not available then it means that the search engine has banned that website.

Making sure that the website optimization follows all the rules set out by the search engine and not overstepping any caution guidelines is one of the best ways to prevent from being banned. Remember that once you get banned all the links in your website can also be at risk for being banned. Trying to rectify all the mistakes to the website and then requesting the search engine to reinstate your website can be one method of trying to resolve this but more often than not it is better to build a new website from scratch and make sure you do not make the same mistakes.
