Using images for an SEO without compromising optimization goals

Search engines employ software in the form of spiders which can recognize textual content rather than images. Trying to fit in images into your website might be a good idea as far as product marketability is concerned. There are a lot of websites that appear to be more appealing when there is an image rather than a whole lot of text. But while trying to optimize your website ranking this may be a draw back since the spiders will bypass this content and may not help in boosting your ranking in the search engine.

Finding a line between appealing to the visitors on your website and at the same time trying to find a balance with the search engine tools to not affect your ranking can be tricky but it can be done. Web engines employ robots or spiders which are essentially software programs that access information from the website and deliver it to the search engine database. While text is one of the major aspect on which these spiders rely for crawl ability, there is some text which they bypass.  This text that the spider bypasses, is mostly that text which is not key word driven, replacing this text with header graphics can be one way of balancing this line between the customers and the spiders.

Another way of adding images is by using alternative image tags or alt image tags. These are essentially small pieces of text that are hidden to visitors (other than search engine robots) and should include your key words and make sure not to stuff the keywords as this could result in black listing.  The image that is being used should be described in the text with the relevant key word and proper description of the image. The text should be followed by the picture or the image then the robot will not assume that the alt tag is a spam.

These two methods will help you incorporate images in your website without risking your search engine ranking.
