Search engine spiders and their role in optimization
Search engine spider is not an insect, it is a software program that is used by the search engines to send out and index websites. They typically access information from the data and provide it to the search engines database for it to analyze and keep them up-to-date and relevant. The purpose of these spiders is generally not limited to checking for tags and text. So in trying to optimize your websites visibility one of the main aspects to keep in mind is that these spiders, most of them, do not read complex java scripts and if they encounter these on your website they are going to ignore it and that will not be good for your website ranking.
The spiders gather information that is stored in databases called indexes and in your search the index is scanned and the results of your search in the search engine are a result of the cataloging done by the spiders. The search engines update their databases constantly to keep up with the ever exploding internet. Spiders are constantly at working gathering information and indexing it.
Search results can vary from search engine to search engine because of the method they use to determine the relevance of the search terms that you type in. It is with the help of the spiders that the search engines are able to determine if any of the websites are using unethical practices like keyword stuffing or spamming which can eliminate them from the search engine database and black list them.
